The Troops of Saint George is a fraternal Catholic nonprofit adventure apostolate for young men,
fathers, and priests looking for a life of adventure coupled with virtue. Initially founded in 2013 by Catholic author and professor Dr. Taylor Marshall we have become a collection of troops across the United States. The Troops of Saint George apostolate aims to use the outdoors as our canvas and the sacraments as our path to light the way for the formation of Holy Catholic men and boys. Whether called to the vocation of the priesthood, the religious life, or that of Holy fatherhood, our fathers and sons will take a prayerful pilgrimage together to fulfill Christ's desire for them to grow in virtue and in their Holy Catholic faith as they journey toward heaven. Below are some videos, resources, and frequently asked questions to better understand this exciting new up and coming Catholic young men’s organization.

Q: What ages is this program for? Fathers and sons ages 6-18.
Q: Are you an alternative to Boys Scouts? While it looks a lot like Boy Scouts, it’s very different. The Troops of Saint George is a Catholic outdoor adventure movement for fathers, sons, and priests. Our mission, goals, and standards are entirely different from other scouting organizations. While we both wear uniforms and use the outdoors to develop survival and real world skills, with Troops of St. George that is just the canvas. Our core is that we are an officially Church approved Catholic Apostolate. Our goal is the spiritual, mental, and physical development of boys into holy Catholic priests and Fathers.
Q: Are the Troops of St. George Catholic? Yes. The Troops of Saint George are a confirmed Catholic Apostolate by Bishop Michael F. Olson of the Diocese of Fort Worth. All of our boys and all of our adult leaders are Catholics in good standing with full fidelity to the Catholic magisterium, the Holy Father, and the local bishop.
Q: What are some common activities? Experience reverent and beautiful Masses on mountaintop vistas, pray the Rosary with other men around fire pits in the freezing cold, catch a Fish Friday meal by fly fishing for trout, go to confession with our priests while kneeling on moss in the woods, teach our sons archery, rock climbing, hunting, marksmanship, fishing, survival skills…and Catholic virtues, foster a love for the priesthood and a reverence for the sacrament of Matrimony support our local parish, our priests, our bishops, and community by being available for works of mercy and service. Once you experience TSG you will see how we are able to transform not only individual men, but entire parishes!

Q: How do Cadets advance in rank? The youth cadets are divided in the Junior and Senior cadets. The Junior cadets, grades 1 - 5, are divided into the St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John and St. George patrols by grade. The senior cadets, grades 6 - 12, are divided into patrols of mixed ages and named after a Catholic blessed or saint. The youth cadets will complete a series of spiritual, patriotic and manly skill requirements by grade level to advance within the troop. The Senior Cadets can complete Achievement Courses to gain AC Stars and become eligible for the highest honor within TSG, the Tribunes of Saint George for our Supreme Pontiff.
Q: Can I drop my son off and leave? No. This program is very different than other scouting programs. This is a joint growth journey, with a Father and Son. Your relationship with your son will grow tremendously, and your faith and virtue will deepen!
Q: How much are dues? Dues are very affordable. They are about ~$3.33 a month per member (with a max family household cap of ~$10 monthly). What a steal! They ask for payment annually so $40 annually for one member, and $120 MAX household cap.
Q: What's your vision for the program? The answer to what Saint Pope John Paul called "The Culture of Death" that we are now living in, is the Holy Spirit pouring out through the spiritual leadership of strong bold courageous formed Catholic Priests and Fathers. This program focuses on just that; the development of holy Catholic strong Priests, and Fathers, beginning with the seed of faith in the heart of the young man. Given today's mountain of challenges against raising holy faithful Catholic children in our post Christian world, we have to invest more in our children's formation. In the words of Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen "How are we going to live in these troubled times? There's really only one answer. We have to become SAINTS". Holiness is the answer. Sainthood is the goal. The Troops of St. George focuses on just that. Join us!
